Temporary power to supplement Utility Grid
The challenge to the customer
Yemen's state owned Public Electricity
Corporation (PEC) released a competetive tender for the
supply of temporary power generation to
supplement the utility grid in order to ease the occurrences of
power interruptions in the country. As the oil & gas
and industrial manufacturing sectors have expanded a
corresponding increase in the demand of electricity had made power
blackouts and interruptions unavoidable.
Aggreko's solution: temporary power plant
Aggreko installed and commissioned a 50 MW / 11 kV power
plant with transformers and ancillaries to power the
development of the infrastructure and to support the country's
rapidly developing economy. From an initial project of 50 MW,
Aggreko's proven power equipment, staff and
service let to the award of additional 175 MW, bringing the total
power supply across 22 sites to 225 MW.
The benefits to the customer
Aggreko's rental power solution helped to
stabilise the grid and provided additional energy to support local
industry and rural communities which had been suffering from
insufficient power supplies. Commenting on the project, Dr. Ali
Mohammed Mujawar, Prime Minister of Yemen said: "As Yemen pursues
its plan of economic reform, it requires the support of strong
infrastructure and the contract with Aggreko will enable us to move
ahead with our plans."
