One of the largest cement manufacturers in the United Arab Emirates, Ras Al Khaimah based Union Cement Company (UCC), was experiencing unprecedented growth due to the construction boom in the country. This meant that UCC needed to maintain the highest levels of production even in the event of load shedding in the region. Additionally, UCC was in the process of bringing more production facilities online, which meant that they would require additional power packages to be installed as and when the facility expanded its capacity.
Aggreko was awarded a contract by UCC to supply a 10 MW rental power package and was able to fully install and commission the 6.6 kV package within two weeks of contract signing. Due to the success of the rental power package and the increased production capabilities of the company, UCC requested a further 10 MW within two months of the initial turn-key package installation.
This additional power supply meant that UCC’s dependence on the grid was reduced, allowing them to boost production targets to meet higher demand.
Why was Aggreko selected?
Several quotations were received, but Aggreko was awarded the contract due to superior technical designs and the company’s ability to install the project within two weeks of contract signing. The award of the contract was also cemented by Aggreko’s availability to supply further power solutions if and when needed.
