Dubai, 30 November 2010 - Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, will once again be powering the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens tournament, from 2 - 4 December 2010. Since its inception in 1969, this major international sporting event has grown to become a staple of the UAE’s sporting and social calendar. Aggreko is providing temporary power and cooling at the event for the eleventh consecutive year.
Sixteen of the best international rugby sevens teams will thrill crowds of around 40,000, with millions more tuning in across the world to watch the games. Aggreko will be providing 6 MW of power to the event, which is enough to power approximately 5,000 homes, along with over 7 km of cables for power distribution. The power package will supply essential functions such as the big screen and broadcaster and security facilities, as well as lighting at the Rugby Village, the International Broadcast Centre and the VIP hospitality area. In addition, Aggreko will be providing a 3 MW cooling package to the VIP hospitality area, which will chill the corporate pavilions using temporary ducting designed and installed by Aggreko.
Aggreko’s involvement in the tournament is not restricted to power and temperature control: the company will once again be sponsoring the Aggreko Dynamos, the Australian cheerleading squad that is always a popular and energising presence at the tournament. Aggreko is also sponsoring the CNCF International Veterans Team and the referees of the Invitation Tournament, which will take place alongside the main tournament.
Phil Burns, Managing Director, Aggreko Middle East, said: “As rugby enthusiasts ourselves, it is an honour for Aggreko to be supporting the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens for the eleventh year in a row. The tournament is unique among international sporting events and generates a real buzz in Dubai, so it is with a great sense of pride that we play our part in making this event a success for another year.”
